Data transfer from home drive to OneDrive

Here we show how you can move your files and folders from your personal drive to OneDrive. Please make sure you have a stable internet connection while performing the transfer.

If you need help with the transfer please contact help@hi.is or go to the service portal on hjalp.hi.is. We recommend people with large personal drives with many subfolders and macOS user seek help.

1) Open File Explorer, find it on the taskbar or search for it.

2) To move the files and folders, both the home drive and OneDrive need to be set up on the computer. Make sure you see both OneDrive - Háskóli Íslands and your personal drive with your username (\\heima.rhi.hi.is) in the sidebar of File Explorer.

3) If both drives are there you can continue to step 4. If one or both are missing you need to follow the instructions below:

Personal drive: https://uts.hi.is/node/929

OneDrive; https://uts.hi.is/node/1370

4) Open your personal drive in File Explorer and click CTRL+A to select all the files and folders. Drag the files and folders to OneDrive - Háskóli Íslands.

If you prefer you can right-click on OneDrive - Háskóli Íslands and select "Open in new window" and drag the files and folders between the two windows. You can create a new folder for the files in OneDrive - Háskóli Íslands before the transfer if you want to keep the files and folders from the old personal drive separate.
